
Guru Dutt born in traditional Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family and was eldest child of the family. His father was a headmaster and his mother was a homemaker but she was a part-time writer also.
In his early days, he spent his childhood in Bhowanipore, Kolkata and that is the reason he was fluent in Bengali and the effect of Bengali culture reflects in his work.
After completing education Guru Dutt joined Lever Brothers factory based in Kolkata as a telephone operator but after sometime he left the job because he was not attached to that work and moved to Bombay to live with his parents in 1944.
